The PNW Cyber Summit Returns to Portland this Week
This October marks the 21st annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a moment for the private and public sectors to join forces and drive awareness of the importance of cybersecurity across all communities. Over twenty years in, this effort has evolved, but the core mission remains: to educate people on the importance of cybersecurity both personally and professionally and reduce online risk.
This Friday, October 11, some of the Pacific Northwest’s brightest minds in cybersecurity will convene at PCC Sylvania for the 2024 Pacific Northwest Cybersecurity Summit to engage in a series of thought-provoking panel conversations, breakout sessions, and workshops. This is an opportunity for people at all levels – from the cyber curious to the enthusiasts, to executives and frontline practitioners and students – to knowledge share with like-minded individuals.
TAO, in partnership with EnergySec, ISACA, ISSA Portland, NW Cyber Camp, Oregon Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, WiCyS, and SIM Portland has curated a lineup of sessions where attendees will be able to explore a wide range of topics, including cyber best practices, the integration of artificial intelligence, and professional development. The event will also feature a career fair to inform and guide the next generation of cybersecurity professionals on the job opportunities in front of them.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear a keynote from one of the most prominent local voices in cybersecurity, Check Point Software’s Chief Evangelist, Grant Asplund. With more than 25 years of industry experience, he will break down some of today’s most discernible cybersecurity trends and threats for the audience. The Summit will also feature from OHSU, SentinelOne, Crowdstrike, SeatGeek, and more on subjects such as:
- Rubrik Workshop: Experience a simulated ransomware attack and the subsequent response and recovery process.
- Cyber War Stories: Learn from real-life cyber incidents driving headlines and gain valuable insights on how to detect, prevent, and respond to cyber threats
- AI & Risk Management: Discover how to identify and manage risks associated with AI systems, models, and data, and best practices to align your AI systems with your values and intended use.
- Prompt Engineering, Data Threats, and Generative AI: learn how the design of prompts influences AI behavior and how threat actors can exploit these inputs to create security vulnerabilities.
- Gamified Cybersecurity Education: Pursue a diverse range of educational games that delve into the world of cybersecurity in a fun and interactive way.
The full-day conference (9 am to 6 pm), which includes a provided lunch and end-of-day happy hour, is open to all who are interested. Secure your spot for $65 for the full-day session.
