CBRE Offers FAQ to Support Tenants During COVID-19

During this unprecedented time, Technology Association of Oregon will be featuring the benefits and value that TAO member companies can provide to our greater community in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ajay Malhotra shared a PDF created by CBRE to address landlord and tenant concerns caused by COVID-19 uncertainty.

TAO Member Company: CBRE

Give us a short intro to your business:
CBRE is the global leader in commercial real estate services. We represent tech tenants and help them find and rent office space and use our size and resources to deliver established or your tech startups alike the best real estate outcome.

What resources can your business offer the community during the COVID pandemic?:
Tenants currently have many questions about working with their landlords. We in the CBRE Tech and Media Practice Group are hearing similar questions and concerns from our clients during this unprecedented time of business and school closures, stay-at-home orders, and social distancing. Most of our clients have had their office hours reduced or denied and replaced with work from home programs. Our PDF addresses some of the most common queries we’ve heard about rent relief etc. and we can be a resource in these matters.

Some of the questions we address include:

  • Am I Entitled to Rent Relief? (Interruption of Essential Services; Casualty; Condemnation; Force Majeure)
  • Can I be evicted if I can’t pay April rent?
  • We haven’t moved into our new offices yet. Can I delay the commencement date?
  • My building was shut down by the Landlord. Am I entitled to rent abatement?

What is the best way for the community to get in touch?:
The community can reach out to Ajay at ajay.malhotra@cbre.com, 503-221-4835 or via LinkedIn.

What's your favorite way to pass the time during self-quarantine?:
Play badminton with my son who often beats me now.

What's one thing that helps you stay positive or gives you hope during difficult times?:
For all the negative sentiment out there, it’s great to also see an abundance of compassion and empathy at this difficult time.
